	<itunes:subtitle>Auxilliary Verbs (Les Verbes Auxilliares)</itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:summary>Sur ce podcast, on apprend 6 verbes auxiliaires différents.

Vocabulaire:

"will" marks the future tense
"must" is used for "il faut" expressions
"can" is the verb "pouvoir" in French
"should" is the verb "devoir" in the conditional tense in French
"could" is the verb "pouvoir" in conditional tense in French
"would" marks the conditional tense for other verbs

To make a question with an auxilliary verb, use the following pattern:
Aux. verb + subject + main verb + ...

For example...

Will he help us? (Est-ce qu'il nous aidera?)

To make a negative statement with an auxilliary verb, negate the auxilliary verb, not the main verb. Also, most of them become contractions when negative.

will not = won't
must not = mustn't (but often in the negative is left as "must not")
can not = can't
should not = shouldn't
could not = couldn't
would not = wouldn't

For example...
She won't appreciate the museum.

the present progressive
to be (conjugué pour le sujet de la phrase) + verbe + -ing
ex. to wear
I'm wearing
You're wearing
He's/She's wearing
We're wearing
You're wearing
They're wearing

Si le verbe se termine avec un seul "e", laisse tomber le "e" avant d'ajouter le "ing", alors...
to have --> having
to shave --> shaving

mais: to be --> being (c'est un exception)

Enfin, n'oubliez pas que, en anglais, les adjectifs vont avant les noms qu'ils décrivent, par exemple...
un chapeau noir --> a black hat
des bottes marrons --> brown boots

	Super Bowl XLII

Historical game because if the Patriots win, they will have the record for most wins in a season
Personally – go Giants! I don't like the Patriots, so I want them to lose

	The Writers' Strike
Television writers are striking against the studios
The issues: more money from DVD sales and “New Media”, meaning online and OnDemand, and
including reality TV and animation writers in the writers' guild
Costing the TV industry millions of dollars (estimates between $500 million and $1.2 billion!!)
The average American is very annoyed and wants to watch their TV shows

Short mention of politics – coming soon I will discuss the American government system and the upcoming elections in more detail!

Juste avant le début de sa nouvelle pièce, vous dites à votre amie:

to me – me
to you – te, vous
to him – lui (un homme)
to her – lui (une femme)
to it – lui (un objet)
to us – nous
to them – leur

Notice that there is always the word “to” with each pronoun. This is similar to French when you say “à
toi” instead of “te”.

Indirect object pronouns go before the verb in French, but in English, they go after the verb:

Je parle à Jean --> Je lui parle
I'm talking to Jean --> I'm talking to him

More examples:

I threw the ball to Mary --> I threw the ball to her
You're giving money to your friend Tom --> You're giving money to him
He talks to his parents a lot --> He talks to them a lot</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Things to remember before moving to a foreign country

The basic idea of today's lesson is to remind you of some things to learn before moving to a different
country. Nobody can give you a full list of everything, but if you pay close attention to what you use on a
daily or a regular basis, you can make sure that you know what to get when you move. It's one thing to
know “I need an alarm clock,” but it's a completely different thing to know where to get that and what
it's called.

Also, a quick pronunciation tip: “used” pronounced “uZeD” is the past tense of “to use.” However,
pronounced “uSeT”, it is a form of the imperfect in English (“I used to play with my friends everyday
when I was young).

<itunes:summary>Le verbe "to miss," et ses différences entre l'anglais et le français

Conjugaison:
miss, misses, missing, missed, missed

Deux emplois:
J'ai manqué le bus - I missed the bus
Nous avons manqué le film - We missed the movie

Mais:
Tu me manques - I miss you
Est-ce que ton père te manque? - Do you miss your dad?

Remarquez que dans le premier emploi, c'est la même entre le français et l'anglais, mais dans l'autre, c'est le contraire. Le sujet de la phrase en français devient l'objet de la phrase en anglais, et puis l'objet de la phrase en français devient le sujet de la phrase en anglais.

Review: negative verbs in the simple present
I eat -> I don't eat
You dance -> You don't dance
She speaks Russian -> She doesn't speak Russian

Alors, voici ce que vous faites au négatif:
Sujet + verbe auxilliare + "not" + verbe principal, toujours à l'infinitif

Le verbe "do" au simple past tense devient "did", et c'est conjugué la même pour tous les sujets:
I did
You did
He/She did
We did
They did

Puis, on ajoute le "not" et le verbe principal
I did not eat
You did not eat
He/She did not eat
We did not eat
They did not eat

Exception: to be
I wasn't
You weren't
He/She wasn't
We weren't
They weren't
